Check out this post on Ann Zeise's blog. I have definitely run into this in my short time homeschooling (three years), even here in Austin. We are socially kept on the fringe of predominately Christian groups, but when it comes to mobilizing the troops for some political action or show of numbers as a community suddenly I'm in. I thought it was just me, and I felt pretty terrible about it last year. While I'm sure I am part of my own problem (I'm pretty direct), I recognize this pattern very clearly. I had never really identified the flip flop as well as she does.
