Kids are Keeping Me on Track

Books and supplies are starting to arrive, and pile up in a corner of the classroom. The kids are getting so excited about starting that they are asking every day when they can have this or that book. I, on the other hand, need a week off. I want to clean the house, cook, sew, knit, and oh, yeah, I'm getting a cold.

They, for once, are the ones keeping me on track. The oldest asked for his assignments before breakfast, and made sure he had plenty of work to do during quiet time. The five year old took his workbook to bed last night and finished it completely. The three year old wanted to do something along the same lines, but she doesn't have any written formal work.

Just when I despair of getting them to clean up by themselves without arguing (or just goofing off), they impress me with their focus and fire. They also ate the Brazilian veggie-laden stew (seconds, even) that I made for dinner. I think we have made a breakthrough. I'm not going to have to let them have a dog after all, am I?
